History of Idle Games | CryMor

Idle Games, Clicker Games, or Incremental Games 🔽 Where did this reasonably new genre come from, what are the biggest names in the industry, and why are they so popular?

Every few years a new genre of game appears, usually a refinement of some indie game. There’s a natural curve to these things, as the popular game becomes more popular and competitors begin to produce products that iterate and improve on the original.

One of the most popular genres in recent history is also one that tends to be controversial. Idle Games, Incremental Games, ‘Clickers.’ These titles are often dismissed immediately because they are too casual, too automated, not game-enough, and yet statistically speaking you’ve not only played one of these games, but you’ve actually got one installed on your phone or PC right now.

  • Hey guys, just wanted to say thanks for understanding that the video is a little late.

  • Who else is waiting for there god damn cookie

  • I don't have a compulsive problem with reddit. You do

  • I don't play these kinds of games, but Cow Clicker had me wanting to try one and then I found out the cows are gone and the genre is another untouched thing for me 🤣

  • Very nice channel bro keep up the great work also I subbed and hit the bell so I dont miss out on any more videos definitely gonna support a great channel in growing

  • That's one high quality video, I am impressed!

  • It fascinates me that you talk about enframing. I actually created a "clicker" style game for a thesis I presented on Video Game Satire, Ian Bogost's work was the biggest influence for me in exploring that topic

  • I'm grinding by auto battling in Digimon right now.

  • When I was younger, “A Dark Room” was one of my absolute favorite games to play on my phone (it helped that it didn’t take data and I was often unable to connect to the internet). I loved seeing the story unfold through small hints in dialogue and interactions, the endings were interesting, and i liked to listen to the commentary. The prequel was super hard tho, never even got close to beating that 😛

  • Wow that was such a good video! Really glad I found your chanel

  • The game from 0:42 to 0:50What game is?

  • I reccomend NGU Idle on steam…

  • Realm grinder is quite the idle game, it takes quite a lot of time tho.

  • ngl i might be nostalgic/bias here but i am pretty sure clicker heroes was/is way more important to the clicker type of games than u made it be

  • No mention of Trimps? SAD!

  • "has Runescape OS on mobile" ahh yes.. I guess i have a clicker installed too..

  • I'd say Roblox's "XXXXX Tycoon" scene was my first experiences with what I would argue as idle games back in 2011-2012 ish.

  • It was fun passing time with Cookie Clicker and Clicker Heroes back in the day. I've since moved on from those days, back into rhythm games, where I came from.

  • Me:spams auto clicker
Clicker games: am i a joke to you

  • I very much understand and appreciate what you're saying here. My only disagreement is on when you say "You aren't a player, you're a resource – they give you the gems and you press the lever."

Couldn't literally any business interaction ever be reduced in such a way? You're not a person to the company, you're a resource who buys their product and gives them money. That's simply how business works. It doesn't mean the product being given is necessarily low effort or unfair or predatory, but many idle games are these things anyway.

  • I spent half a year to beat cookie clicker in school. Barely played but I checked in and upgrade the stuff once/twice a week.

  • check out endless world idle

  • If you guys are interested in clicker games (but in 3D) play any roblox game with “Simulator” in the title. Basically a 3D clicker game

  • “𝖶𝗋𝗂𝗇𝗄𝗅𝖾𝗋𝗌 𝖺𝗋𝖾 𝖾𝖺𝗍𝗂𝗇𝗀 𝗒𝗈𝗎𝗋 𝖼𝗈𝗈𝗄𝗂𝖾𝗌…"

A historia dos clickers anonimos, viva ao nosso líder felps

  • No mention of Runescape? Literally the most addictive clicker ever

  • Is it weird that i want to play idlegame again after watching this video?

  • If someone plays Minecraft focusing on making automatic farms and not building or exploring but only making automatic farms, is Minecraft a idle game to that person with that play style?

  • Not to sound like "toe" (orteil) but cookie clicker is not just a "not game game" but a: achievement speedrun, speedrun.

Me on tf2 in 2017: “um. Do I count?”

  • Wait! Not a single word about "idlerpg" game on IRC released 7/16/2003? It was very famous and probably the first big idle game, multiplayer as well, played by thousands at the same time. This game was serious business on all IRC networks and it still played today. There are multiple other games based on this source as well.

Some say cookie clicker is the best incremental game. Some people say clicker heroes is the best. Deep down, we can all agree that NGU idle is the fucking worst.

  • NGU is better than most non-idle games. It’s like progress incarnate. So addicting it’s almost criminal.

  • NGU Idle?

  • Feeling bad for afking while I study, runescape and so on

  • glad candybox was mentioned

  • Anyone know the song name
